FtB July Tournament 2014 - FtB 3
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EVERYBODY! Decon and I invite you all to participate in this upcoming tournament we've planned! All skill levels welcomed! Anyways, check below for basic information and then after that will be some less organized responses to questions you might have. The Tournament is set to begin next Saturday, June 28th.
The tournament is over! Thanks to everyone for participating!
Check out the results here!
FINAL ROUND
If you are in the Green Group, these are the charts you will be playing in Round 4: (click images!)
Revolutionary Etude (nivrad00)
Waltz No. 17 in G Minor (nivrad00)
Holy Orders (Paulets)
And if you are in the Blue Group, you will be playing these charts: (click images!)
Greenery Rain (wizardoffail)
Finale Sonata Opus 14 (MarsPhoenix)
Storm World (Charlotte)
Once again, you will have a week (up until the end of Saturday the 9th) to play all of the charts and submit your scores! This is ASSUMING the site does not go down. If the site does go down, then the round will be extended for however many days it's down and maybe some more, just because it's not too fair to everyone's schedules. You must play all three charts assigned to your group before next Sunday. If you don't, you'll receive the worst possible score (for each unplayed song) and lose any hope of winning the tournament! Good luck!

Detailed Round 2 scores:
Hey all! There are a lot of things to go over for Round 2, so I've split up this post into multiple parts for easier reading. If you don't care about specifics and just want to know which songs are in Round 2, feel free to skip the other sections!
Round 2:
This part is very important! Based on your Round 1 performance (see Round 1 Scores section), you have been placed into two different groups. You will only need to play the charts for your group! You do not need to play the charts assigned to the other group. (Though you can if you want! You just won't be scored on them.)
First, the two groups!

And if you are in the Blue Group, you will be playing these charts: (click images!)

Other Details:
Since
We determined the groups objectively by looking at the scores. Before splitting the groups, we calculated everyone's scores together, and looked for a fairly obvious cutoff point based on performance on the three charts. This is what we found:
The gap of 21 points between Jxyden and ChronoX77 was the largest gap on the entire list. With the exception of Chrono's Betrayal of Fate score, every person in blue on that list had worse scores than every person in green (ignoring Jxyden). The decision to place Chrono in the lower group was because of his score on Quasar (the hardest song in the first set) and the fact that every person in the top group scored better on Disorganized Fun as well. Chrono, if you're reading this, you can tell us that you'd like to be in the upper group if you'd like to compete with Jxyden and the rest of the pros instead!
Afterwards, we split the groups and recalculated scores, only comparing them to others in the same group. This was mainly to keep everyone in the lower group from starting with insanely high scores. For the most part, the top group's points stayed the same, only changing if someone did worse than somebody in the lower group, resulting in a better score when those in the lower group are ignored.
Duration:
1 month/4 rounds(1 round per week)
starts Saturday June 28
each round lasts from a Saturday to the following Friday. we'll be lenient/reasonable about score submissions
Songs:
# of songs per round: 3-4
total time of that round's songs will be considered to make it accommodating to players
first round - one easy, one medium, and one difficult song
Scoring:
lowest score wins
place = score
ex: 1st place gets like 1 point but last place gets like a bajillion. you feel? (Actually last place would get a score that was the same as the number of competitors in the tournament)
(the actual raw # of perfects you get or the actual raw completion % doesn't matter - it's all relative to your competitors)
for each song there are two scoring categories: (unrounded)completion% and perfects. the scores from both categories are simply added together.
Each song has the same weight in scoring.
2ND ROUND ONWARD:
separation of pros and normals into two distinct groups so that songs picked can be comfortable/comfortably challenging for all skill levels
there will be a winner for each group, to keep things competitive

Q&A
Q: So what am I supposed to do if I want to do this tournament?
A: Well the first thing you'd actually NEED to do is play all of the first round songs once they're announced and get scores for them while the round is still going on. We'll check out all the scores submitted for the songs we picked and if you played all of the selected in the time frame of the round, we're going to assume you wanted to participate. We'll then post results (at the beginning of the next round? TBD when haha).
Q: Wait, so I play all the songs you guys want me to . . . then what? How is this judged again?
A: You should try to focus on besting two areas: perfects and completion(unrounded). These two categories will be the basis for how the tournament is scored. Say we choose . . . God Knows as one of the songs for the round. Let's say that at the end of the round, you have the highest amount of perfects on God Knows compared to everyone else in the tournament. You'd be first place for the perfects category and get one point (which is a good thing. Refer to the scoring section if you're confused!). However, let's say you got fourth place in completion (also on God Knows). Your score for that song would be four points accordingly. We'll add up all the points from both categories from all songs in the round. The points from each round are added to grand totals and the person with the lowest grand total in the end is da winner winner chicken dinner.
Q: This is a really cool idea but I'm not sure I want to be outclassed by everyone! What should I do? Do I need to do intensive training before the tournament starts?
A: Don't hurt yourself. This is not a high-stakes tournament and we're all pretty chill about this. PLUS there are going to be two brackets after the first round so that players will be playing against other players with similar skill levels. See "2nd round onward" for details.
Q: Is this tournament gonna take place in FtB4? Cuz shiz is cool there.
A: Nope, this tournament is going to take place in FtB3 because most of the songs are still there.
Q: Wait so how does this start? You guys didn't say what songs we're supposed to play.
A: Songs for each round will be announced at the beginning of each round. The first round starts June 28th. Check back here then and the first post will be updated with the charts you'll be playing.
Q: Wait, my question wasn't answered in this silly Q&A!
A: First off--that wasn't even a question. If you still have unanswered questions after reading this post, feel free to leave a post below asking whatever (phone numbers, hobbies, etc.)!
